Is this schedule okay for a new grad nurse?

Published

I am excited that I get to work evenings 3-11:30 pm but was disappointed to hear that my FTE will be a 0.8.

What do you all think of this schedule for a new grad nurse? I am not a morning person so evenings sound great to me but I am concerned about doing 5 evening shifts in a row. I, however, LIKE that I get 5 days off. I just want to make sure I am able to practice safely and that I have some sort of life that does not revolve around work.

Also for reference, I will be working in pediatric hematology/oncology.

My schedule would be 5 days on, 1 day off, 3 days on, 5 days off (and repeat)

Let me know your thoughts/experiences/tips! Appreciate it!

The one day off after your 5 day stretch is not going allow you to recover before working another 3 days. Five days off in a row is nice, but you will spend some of that recovering from working 8 out of 9 days.

The one day off between your 5 days and 3 days shift is pretty rough, but if you really can't do anything with this sched, I suggest be consistent with your sleep schedule.
