Is Rochester ABSN Worth the Cost?

Published

Hello everyone,

Just wanted some advice. I am finishing up my BS in Biology this year, and have since decided to pursue a degree in nursing. I wanted to go somewhere near my home, so I wouldn't have to deal with renting an apartment and living alone again. I found a few small programs near me, but they were all Associate's programs and even with my prior BS would take me 2 years. Besides, I would actually prefer a BSN.

That lead me to University of Rochester - they have a one year Accelerated BSN for people with a BS not in nursing. The cost of the program is around $52,000 - for tuition alone! This doesn't include my transportion, personal expenses, books, supplies, etc. I'm guessing the entire thing will cost me around $65,000. I already have some loans (around 15 K) from my first bachelor's, so I don't know what to do! I've kind of had my heart set on Rochester, but now I'm not so sure.

Also - I suppose I can't get any aid because it's my second BS, meaning it would be all loans. Is it worth it? What should I do? Anyone have experience with Rochester financial aid or the ABSN program? Help!
