Hello everyone,
I wanted to share my experience and feelings about the nursing field, maybe someone is in the same or similar situation... I have worked as an nursing aide to get some experience before I start nursing school however it turned out to be the most psychologically draining thing it did . As much as I wanted to help people and was appreciated by patients, the environment was a very hostile place to work in. I needed the job so I was afraid to quit and be left job less.
I was written up for things that were said behind my back without the opportunity to explain myself. I said my story the , supervisor looked at me , then handed me a warning. I it was like that for 2 .5 years . I got a warning after a warning, I felt nobody wanted to help me, it was lies and lies again. I worked very hard, always double checeked everything with the nurse, and the more I tried the more I was put down. I ultimately was so psychologically and physically drained that I stopped advocating for myself and was ultimately fired.
It was never about job responsibilities, but lets say a frustrated nurse yelling at me then feeling guilty I d go complain about her and writing to my supervisor that I did not help her that day ... Let me just mention that nothing has ever happened to a patient I cared for that day. I just want to say that it was the hardest thing in my life to get up from and function again, but I did. However I still am worried I might face that situation again , and if I said or did something wrong , and I am worried this field is too much to handle at times. I still have that bad experience follow me and I am worried it will affect my performance. I am the type of person that wants the work done right and perfect. I care about what people say, it is important to me that I have a good opinion about me. However does it mean , that in this field, the more you care, the more someone will want to destroy you ? I am planning to graduate nuring school by the end of the year,... ANy opinions, feed backs, please share !
Thanks

Well I don't know why you're posting if it's the right career now. You're almost done so I think you need to finish nursing school and move on from there. I myself have worked in hostile nursing environments and the great thing about nursing is you can go do something else. I worked ltc and hated the work environment similar to what you described. I'm quiet not a gossip and spent most of my time with my patients which is a recipe for disaster at some places. Anyway I'm working home heathcare and I love it. I work with one patient and no other employees are there to gossip and complain. You just have to find the right place for you.
