I have a resident who has had most of his teeth removed and is on a mechanical soft diet. All he talks about is steak and how much he’d like to eat it again. I was wondering if there’s any way to make something similar to steak that he’d be able to eat? Thank you!

There is 'liquid smoke', but I don't know what type of meat could used.
Has your RD (dietician) been consulted?

Honestly, the food is so terrible and I never see the actual dietician ? I’m thinking about making some kind of ground up steak held together into a steak shape with gravy. We’ll see ?
iznoodle - I'm not too sure re your job. Are you a nurse or CNA??? If CNA, DO NOT take it upon yourself to become creative re his diet!! Let the nurse know so the dietician can intervene. If you're the nurse, you can leave a consult request. That's their jobs.
You could also pass on the info to the actual Dietary Dept Manager and then he/she could follow up.
Traditionally, NH food is nothing great to talk about. But it does have to meet DOH R&R criteria. And if the pt were to interview with the DOH surveyor and express his concern, the surveyor would ask the facility "so what did you do about helping?"
This is where things can become tricky. NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to provide food items (altho your intentions are well-meaning). There is a mechanical diet order there for a specific reason. You don't want to get in trouble or to poss cause him injury.
Thank you for trying to advocate for him. Very nice gesture.
