I have 3 years of L&D experience and when I relocated to a new area I decided I just wanted to work PRN for awhile since I have a young child at home.
I applied for everything PRN that interested me.
Hospital A hired me PRN for L&D and I just started last week (yay!)
However I just got an email that Hospital B is now considering me for a PRN NICU position I applied for 2 months ago.
I really want to work NICU, but assumed that there is no way I'd be hired PRN without NICU experience, so I resigned myself to the fact that it'd be something I'd pursue years down the road when I was ready to apply for full-time.
But now it looks like I'm actively being considering which has me wondering if it's possible to be hired PRN without experience in that speciality.
I think I could handle 2 PRN jobs though it would be taking on more than I was planning for at this point.
But if I'm given the opportunity to break into NICU I wouldn't want to pass it up.
I also wouldn't want to quit my current L&D PRN job during orientation and burn bridges at that hospital.
I would only take the NICU job if they offered me a long orientation.
They seem to have a lot of open positions now, so maybe they're a bit desperate for staff and would be willing to accommodate me and give me a nice long orientation.

That would be an amazing find!
