Is it OK to get a gift for my preceptor?

Published

I'm about to finish my 12 weeks of training in L&D/PP/Nursery. I've had an amazing preceptor who has taught me so much and been very supportive and I want to show my appreciation. Is it ok to get her a small gift (like a restaurant gift certificate) along with a card thanking her. What do you think?

I gave my nursing school preceptor a HUGE basket from Bath n Body Works to show my appreciation. She loved it and we remained friends afterwards and I ended up working with her.

I had a few preceptors during my orientation so I made up little flower pots full of goodies like flower seeds, pens, hand sanitizer, lotion, gum, and some chocolate. I added a personalized thank you note to each one of them. They loved it.

I feel a card with a heartfelt written note in it is just as thoughtful as a gift.

By all means! It seems that great preceptors are few and far between so let her know in a big way that you appreciate her hard work, caring, nurturing, etc.
