Is 1 month enough time to study for nclex-rn?

Published

Hello nurses,

I just scheduled my nclex-rn test date, and I got 5 weeks til test date.

I graduated from nursing school about 3 wks ago and I haven't done anything yet to prepare my nclex exam.

I'm planning to do 1 week nclex prep class and do some practice questions from kaplan CDs...

What else i can do besides these things? anything would help. I'm lost right now----:bluecry1:

Specializes in MS.

It depends on you. I studied for a week. i graduated in Dec. 2008, had a lot of fun during the holidays, did not take the kaplan or any other review classes even though everyone in my class did, took the exam jan. 29th and passed. i reviewed the Saunders NCLEX book, answered all the questions on the CD and just prayed to God to be calm on that day.

If u did good in ur nursing courses during school, u should be fine. Goodluck.

How did I Prepare for the exam:

1. I graduated in Dec. 17. I didn't start studying until January 5 which was my first day with Kaplan.

I got 62% on my diagnostic exam with Kaplan and 66% with the readiness exam.

I watched all the kaplan videos.

I read the Kaplan Book at least 4 times.

I answered all Qbank questions and all Qtrainers and when I ran out I would re-do them again over and over.

I was using Saunders' CD to answer questions. I didn't read nor used the book at all because I preferred reading Incredibly Nursing Made Easy Questions and Answers with rationales. (I did not simply answer it. I studied it fervently). For me, the rationales on this book were more straight forward compared to Saunders. (But Saunder's more popular.

3. I would say I was at least answering 300-400 questions throughout the day on top of reading the Kaplan book.

4. So from January 5 until February 18. I was studying "religiously". I didn't have time for my family nor had time to indulge myself with anything.

I was up by 0700 having breakfast and by 08:00 I was answering Qbanks questions (kaplan) and when I'm done with the 50 questions, I would start reading the Kaplan book, for 2 hours, then started answering questions from Incredibly made easy for 2 hours, then I'd answer the CD from Saunders for 2 hours and then read kaplan book again for 2 hours. (minus lunch and dinner and to complete my ADLS. You guys do the math) And by 20:30 I'm in bed HOWEVER I have my laptop and answering Saunders CD again till about 22:30. That was pretty much how my life was and that's how I budgeted my time.

and I passed!

Also... wherever I go...for an instance, I'll be driving my wife to the mall or grocery store, I'd make sure I'll bring something with me to read.

i'd like to know also.

i would go over the entire Saunders Comp Review book chapter by chapter and make sure you do the questions and read the rationals. then i would do learningext.com review they offer for 3 weeks $50 but you can do more for more money but 3 weeks is good. The questions with rational they give are very similar to the questions on the nclex. it helped me a lot!! GOOD LUCK!
