Is it me or does it seem Ike the BSN is the way to go now? I ben an l.p.n. for seven years before then I was a CNA. While working as a CNA it seemed as if l.p.n. was the way to go. So I went and became an l.p.n. soon as I became an l.p.n. couple years later it was all this ruckus about r.n. ADN. I am due to start l.p.n. to r.n. ADN bridge program soon. And it seems to me now its a lot of talk about obtaining a BSN. Once I start that in the future I FEEL like its going to a lot of talk about obtaining a MSN and so on and so forth.......it seems no matter what degree u have its always the pressure (good/bad) about obtaining the next highest degree...........OR IS IT JUST ME??????? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I can see the pressure to obtain your BSN. In my area, almost all hospitals are transitioning that way, in order to obtain the highest rating status in patient care. However, I don't see the pressure to obtain an MSN or PhD unless that is actually what you want to do with your career. (ie hospital management, nurse practitioner, researcher etc...) Bedside nursing will stop at BSN, in my opinion and I believe that a BSN is appropriate considering the level of care nurses give and the knowledge base they are expected to have. Nursing has come a loooong way over time, and if we want to be respected for a knowledge based profession, we gotta have the knowledge base to back it up! If you want to get your BSN, there are many routes you can take. LVN to ADN may be a good option for you now. And later, when you ready you could do ADN to BSN. Do what works for you and your family, but aspire to acquire the highest knowledge base/ education you can in order to provide the best care for your patient! Above that, , follow your heart and desire for what you want your career to be!

Thanx for ur input! Really appreciated! Very helpful........

No its not you, that's the way things are going. I am an LPN and currently getting my ADN. In Georgia most hospitals have "magnet" status so I plan to get my BSN and MSN. It just a change of the times. Good luck to you :)!
