Is it hard to get a part time job at a hospital as an RN

Published

I am going to nursing school right now. I also work full time. I would like to work part time as an RN when I finish school. I want to become a nurse because I like the idea of working in the ER, but still want to do my current job. Is it possible to work part time at a hospital as an RN? I would think they would rather hire full time people.

At our hospital we have FT (benefited) & guaranteed hours, PT (benefited) & guaranteed hours, and Per Diem (not benefited, canceled first when slow). It is near impossible to get PT- the RNs who have that status have worked there a long long time and just never changed. There is technically a wait list for Part Time but it is so long and its not a realistic option for anyone currently working there. Only if you are lucky and have worked there forever. :-)

Hope this helps!! Per Diem is easy to get but no benefits...not sure if that is what you want or not.:nurse:
