Hi all!
Just a future nurse here who dreams of working in a GP clinic or a day surgery or something along those lines. HOWEVER I was just wondering if it is really competitive to get a job in these areas? I understand getting a grad program straight out of uni in a hospital is the way to go but after completing that/ getting experience in the hospital is it pretty easy to get a job in those areas? I just imagine with the good hours it would be haaaaarrrd.
Also how is the job market for nursing right now? Especially in Australia. Was speaking to one nurse who is struggling to find work (both her parents are nurses). I understand this is just one person though so would like some more opinions!

I know nothing of Australia. It can be easy, it can be near impossible. I worked acute care hospital for 17 years 11- pm to 7 am, and finally switched to day surgery, this was 17 years ago. But I met nurses there who said...." yeah, I worked med/surg a few months, didn't like it, got a job here".
There are and will be opportunities for regular clinics, regular hour, etc. . But I have to add there are LOT of advantages to working nights, every other weekend, etc. it is not that bad and worked out great when my kids were little.
