Is my GPA too low??

Published

Hello! I am currently preparing to begin applications to nursing school. My hope is to start in Fall 2016! I am super worried that my GPA is too low to get into the schools I want!

I still have 2 pre-reqs to take - one this fall and one next spring, but have no doubt I can get A's in both. I already have a bachelors in in communications and with my last prereqs I need to take, my GPA will be around a 3.2. I also have an MBA in which I have a 4.0

I am wanting to apply to some KS schools - KU, Mid America Nazarene, Baker, UMKC - but I am worried I don't have a high enough GPA! I'll have a CNA certification by the end of this year and a few months of volunteer work by the time I apply!

Any advice on what to do?

Thank you!

You really need to check into each schools nursing program to get the most accurate information. Every program has a different way if determining requirements for entry into the program. Some schools will look at cumulative GPA of all classes, while others will look at certain core classes. For example my cumulative GPA for over 17 years is at a 3.2, however the classes that my schools program looks at is a 3.84. Get in touch with the schools that you are interested in, they will be able to give you the most accurate and up to date information.

Agreed.

Talk to the nursing school you would love to attend. Every school has different criteria of admission.

A college I attended, I had to have 3.9xx to make the cut. However, as of today they change the criteria to point- GPA, repeated class (result in minus point), etc.

CNA experience will help you with fundamental classes. Upper level classes not so much. Few of my classmates who were CNA did make it through a nursing school. However, it will definitely help.

Higher ed. GPA has nothing to do with undergrad program. At least my college, they will not transfer my higher ed to undergrad level. But most of my B.Ed transfered.
