Is it good idea to take ACLS course before getting hired?

Published

If I do get ACLS, will my job pay for it? I am a new graduate and I know that most of the places do want there nurses to have ACLS within year of getting hire. I wanted to complete the course and add to my resume, so I can get faster response by recruiters, what do you think? Thank you

When I interviewed for a job, one of the questions they asked me was if I had my ACLS already. Its a small price to pay if you want a job especially in this competitive job market. You have to spend some dough if you want to catch the good jobs.

Thanks nursegirl for your reply. Do you know which online course is best to take? They have so many company that offers ACLS course.

Can you do ACLS online? Even if you could, I definitely would not recommend it for your initial certification. I don't really think it's something that is necessarily going to catch a recruiter's eye, but it is something that is a positive to have on your resume- one less thing to get done, if you're going to a floor that requires it.

0402 I was trying to do in class but I didn't find any and all this online sites appeared. So I thought it probably is offered online. Yea most of the positions that i looked at they want you to have ACLS.

I know my hospital system offers ACLS, in person, and you don't have to work there to take it- you just get a discount if you do (or your unit pays for it, if you need it for your position). If there's a hospital system you're interested in, see if they offer it, and you might even meet some people there who could help you in your job search.

I just went online and did it with the American Heart Association. you have to be careful with other companies because sometimes hospitals will not accept them. If you go with the American Heart Association its a safe bet cause all hospitals accepts them. Gluck
