The NCLEX exam fee varies depending on your location. Still, generally, it ranges from $200 to $400, paid directly to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) during registration.
Several options are available to help cover the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) cost for nursing licensure.
The challenge is finding the money/organization, applying for it, and timing.
Check with your state's Board of Nursing or Board of Registered Nursing, as they may have information specific to your state. Your state may administer funds under a workforce agency. Here's a list by state.
Johnson & Johnson offers several nursing scholarships and provides a list with amounts and contact information. Here's the link: Johnson & Johnson.
Veteran's Benefits: If you are a veteran's dependent, you may be eligible for reimbursement for as many times as you take the exam. Visit the S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Employer Assistance Some employers offer reimbursement or financial assistance for employees taking the NCLEX.
Hurst Review and AACN are partnering to offer scholarships to nursing students for exceptional academic performance.
Financial Aid: If you're currently enrolled in a nursing program, you may be eligible for financial aid to cover the cost of the NCLEX. Contact your school's office for financial assistance.
Military Benefits If you're affiliated with the military, programs or benefits may be available to help cover the cost of the NCLEX.
Professional Organizations. Nursing associations or professional organizations sometimes offer financial assistance or scholarships to support members in their licensure journey. Check with your local association of nurse leaders. For example, the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL) awards scholarships in California. Find the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau as well. Are you a member of the National Nurses' Student Association? Check with them even if you're not.
This is a chance for me to plug professional organizations. I hope you'll join one once you start your career.
To cover the NCLEX costs, research your options and seek guidance from your school's financial aid office, nursing organizations, or potential employers.
I hope you find the funds. Good luck with your exam! Best wishes, Nurse Beth
