Is there flight nursing in Reserves or just ANG? And other questions.

I've been pondering Reserve or National Guard nursing for a while. I'm still a bit out from sending in a packet. I'm especially interested in air evac or flight nursing eventually, but I'm guessing it takes a while to get those positions. Of course, I have absolutely no civillian experience for these types of jobs as well. I do have CC experience (but not in trauma). My questions are these: Are there flight positions in reserves or just ANG? What should I do to start my gaining experience now? Thanks in advance for everyones response.

Yes they are ER nurses (66HM5) trained to function as a flight nurse. As far as I know they are only assigned to CSH's and it is not an ASI. I would talk to a recruiter for clarifications. We had flight nurses in our CSH in Iraq, they flew pts out of our CSH to Balad. Never saw one on an incoming MEDEVAC. It sounded like a very challenging, intense job.

NSjodi,

even if the ANG or AR have a given specialty you should look at the geographic area that you might be thinking of.. home state or whatever your preference is.. because that way you can see what units are present and what options are available to you. This also allows you to see what specific slots might be open and if you could perhaps schedule an interview or visit to that local training site to meet the commander or 1:1 a nurse.

there is flight nursing in af reserves. i am from sc and they have an aeromedical evac squadron in charleston, sc. you do have to check your state. some states have ang. if you're planning to join af, you go to flight school at brooks afb, earn your wings, and have flight training in your unit after that. good luck. it was fun for me.

Hey thanks everyone for the responses. There's a large ANG unit very close to me and they always have postings for flight nurses. I'm planning to talk to them later on this fall. I just hope I have enough experience for them. Thanks again!!
