Is it easier for men to get into a nursing program?

Im currently enrolled at CSULB as a pre-nursing major. Just wondering, since the boy to girl ratio difference in the program is really big.

Here's how I see it. Officially, Nursing schools will tell you no because it's discriminatory. But unofficially yes... e.g. say you apply for an ABSN program with a prior Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (no I don't have one, just for example)... if you have a savvy enough person/committee looking over your application, I'm pretty sure they will deduce that you are more than likely a guy which I'm sure they'd love to have more of. By this I mean, you can drop "contexual clues" about your gender if that makes any sense.

Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, I would probably say yes. Most colleges try to get an even ratio of gender and ethnicity into their programs. Like the person above stated, the school will tell you otherwise

Sure it is. Nobody would admit to it officially, but they want men in the profession. As long as you are competitive with the other candidates, you'll get in.

So, what if a school gives you an interview? Are you set because you wear a tie? How about if you have a manly name, like "Arnold"? What about those ambiguous names, like "Morgan"?

I don’t know if I buy into the fact that one is selected over the other based upon the gender. That could open doors to potential discrimination suits and the loss of credibility. But then again, I don’t sit on the admissions board.

You will never see a successful suit regarding this due to the need to prove what a panel was THINKING. Impossible unless you can get memos and emails stating such or a rat willing to testify. I fully believe that affirmative action, though now illegal, still exists.
