Is it too early to apply for nurse intern positions?

Hi! Anyone here live in Memphis, too? I will begin nursing school in January. I am curious if I have to wait until after the end of the first semester to begin applying for nurse extern/nurse tech positions, or if I would be considered for any of these jobs yet. Any info you have would be really appreciated, as I am working two jobs as it is, neither of which will fit into my new schedule. PLEASE HELP!!

yeah you are going to need to wait. They usually want a letter from a clinical instructor and you need the skills you are going to learn.

In my experience, you must at least have completed a year of Nursing School within a two year program (ADN/ASN) or be in your Junior or Senior year of Nursing School within a 4-year program (BSN). I do not know about the hospital programs in your area; you will need to contact them to check the eligibility requirements. More then likely you are not eligible at this time. However, you can try to apply to a tech position or become a CNA and work at the hospital before you become a nurse extern. This is what I did and it has really helped me a great deal in clinicals. I do not make the basic errors other students who have no clinical experience make. GL.
