Is Chem really importand?

I am doing my pre reqs, Anatomy and Chem 60... got a D on my last Chem test and getting an A in Anatomy. I

want to drop Chem it's so hard and if I manage to get a C that will mess up my GPA. Should I drop it? Not all

schools require Chemistry with anatomy to take Physio or Micro

If chem is not required, then drop it if you want. You can always take it next term or later if you need to. Some schools require it, others don't.

Specializes in So far, just the basics....

Of course, I can only speak for myself, and I will preface this in saying that I found chemistry pretty hard too, but I don't see how anyone could do well in phys or micro and especially the pathophys stuff in nursing school, without having a pretty good handle on chemistry.

I know.....probably not the answer you wanted to hear. Can you find a tutor? I was able to join a study group/problem solving tutor group held by the science retention folks at my school. Trust me....when you're in nursing school and have to explain to an instructor in lab and at clinicals, in front of everyone: how and why certain meds do what they do (pathophys), including side effects, liver vs. renal metabolism and soforth, you will be very thankful that you stuck it out, and learned chemistry!! Oh yeah, and the math part of chemistry, the conversions of grams into mLs, etc.....that IS nursing, so you have to learn that!!

Good luck!!

The semester is almost half over. If you can't turn it around and get a B then you need to drop chem and retake it in the summer or fall. Once that C is on your transcript, it never goes away.

My school requires chem before you can take A&P. I took chem last semester and A&P I this semester and it seemed to help me with regards to the nervous system and action potentials....you know how NA+ and K+ along the membrane wall determine it's action potential. I agree with the others if it's not required I would drop it so it doesn't mess with your GPA.
