Is an Associates Degree able to transfer into a Nursing Program?

Published

I currently have my Associates Degree in Business but I am considering Nursing school. Does anyone know if the prereqs of an Associates degree transfer into a nursing program or do I have to take them all over again?

I think it depends on the school and program you are transferring to... you will still get your credits from your business degree, but you will still have to do the nursing pre-reqs to apply to the program. At least that is what I had to do when I was looking into nursing schools.

Generally an Associates has a core, and that core is usually transferable, but you'd still need to finish pre-nursing pre-reqs and I don't know if your Bus. classes would transfer too. It also depends on the amount of time that has passed after you got your Associates, etc. I would talk with an advisor :)

It also depends on your particular. If the school you got your Associate's Degree from was not accredited by the "right" organization, the nursing school may not accept any credits from there. For example, if your AD was from a "career college" or "vocational school," and not accredited by those who accredit academic institutions, many universities will not accept those credits.

You are going to have to talk to the specific nursing schools that interest you and find out whether or not they will accept your particular courses from your previous degree.
