cna to rn?
I will be attanding my local community college in the spring to get my cna. From what I have heard having your cna does halp with getting accepted into a nursing program. I am planning to getmy cna and work while attend nursing school. I have a friend who is doing the same thing. It will most likely take you 3 to 4 years from where you are right now, but if your passionate about being a nurse it will be worth it.

How much anatomy do CNAs need to know?
I am preparing to start my CNA training in the fall and I am trying to start preparing now by studying human anatomy on my own. Are there spacific areas of anatomy I should focus on learning over others?

What gives with the unsupportive spouses?
I an most likely the minority in the conversation. I am a male who is putting off nursing school because my wife has reservations about it (e.g. cost, school time commitment, cost, being away from home, and the big one, THE COST!!). I have heard so many people say that the economy is bad so you should go back to school, but I always want to yell back at them, "how the heck am I going to pay off $30,000 of debt before I die in a down economy!!". My wife and I agreed that instead of jumping right into nursing school I would get my CNA and work in that field for a while and them in the future we can look back into nursing. I was happy to compromise because I know that she works hard all week to help support our family finincially and I don't want all of the pressure of taking care of the family and finances to be completely on her. God gave us spouses for a reason, we should try listening to them once in a while, they might save us from doing something stupid. I know mine has saved me from doing thousands of stupid things.

Does a CNA have to wipe butts?
I think you need to read the book "Everybody Poops". You wipe your own, what's wrong with wiping someone elses? Just have a kid, you will get over cleaning someone elses behind very quickly.

Educational Dilemma
Yes it is, but I also want the best training possible. If I am going to get educated I want to do it right. I can get all of the training I need at the Community College, but the For Profit school offers it all in one course. The Community College does not.

Educational Dilemma
I am torn between community college and for profit school. The dilemma is that in community college I would have to put in 16 wks to earn my PCT. In the for profit school I would only have to put in 6 wks for my PCT and it includes all books, scrubs, and any tools I may need. Can anyone give me some advice on which way to go? Does anyone have for profit school education an did it serve you well? Any advice is welcome. Thanks

CNA Training at a Long-Term Care Facility?
I am a 30 year old male w/ a family at home and currently working in retail. I am looking to transition into the medical field and I am considering CNA training but what I really want to do is PCT (Patient Care Tech). I found a long0term care facility that provides cna training for new employees but they also require a 1 year commitment after the training. Does anyone now if long-term care facilities are good places to get your training? Any advice would be appreciated.

Career changers? What is your previous degree in? What was your previous career?
Right out of high school I went into construction for ten years. I moved on to retail in 2004 and worked my way up to management and I am still there today. During this time I worked full time and went to school full time and received my associates in Business degree over a 2 1/2 year period. I then began taking Bachelors in Worship Arts online. I am about half way through that program, but I am switching gears and starting my PCT classes in the spring. I then hope to continue on to enroll in the nursing program at our local community college. People have told me that I am crazy for making such a dramatic career shift but I simply tell them that I want to help people in a physical way and through that the door might be opened to help people in a spiritual way. I am not one of those people that forces my faith on people, but I don't hide it either. I love people and want to spend my life helping to make people well.

For profit learning centers: are they good places to get your CNA certification?
I am seriously thinking about going to nursing school, but I want to get my PCT or CNA first so I can get into the field and get some experience. I am wondering if places like Ross Medical or Career Quest Learning Centers are good places to get your certification or if I should stay away from those kinds of places? I need to work fill time and go to school and it seems that these are the only places that offer night classes. Really need some advice here. Thanks
