Is anyone having trouble getting into a CRNA program?

Published

I keep hearing about how competitive CRNA school is but haven't seen anyone mention having difficulty getting into a program. Is anyone having a tough time getting in? Please don't be shy to comment :)

When I applied, I made up my mind if "Bubba Gump's school of Anesthesia" accepted me.... I was going to that school..... Applied to Five (one noway), two alternates, two accepts.... Actually the noway was more like "So Mr.___ have you ever thought about picking up trash for a living, we are unsure how you are able to maintain your own breath.... I accepted at Raleigh School of Anesthesia in NC.....

Good luck to all,

Hey Gasgiver, if you dont mind me asking, which school was it that you referred to as the "noway" school?

Don't mind a bit..... UNC-Charlotte..... Would have been convenient (would not have moved) to attend but I don't mind not getting in as long as I got in somewhere..... UNCC is actually located firmly within, (lets all sing together), "In the Ghetto".... Thanks for asking, are you in school now or have you graduate from the life of cheap slave labor.....

Over and out....

Oh okay, good to know. I am just beginning the application process, this is the first year I am applying to any schools, so far I have applied to Duke and I will probably also apply to Raleigh before the august deadline.

This is the way you felt after leaving the interview? That's pretty crappy ... was it the question and answer session that did it for you or something else?

My interview with UNCC was very friendly, although extremely stressful for me (I'm not sure why--the atmosphere was not made that way; I guess I was just thinking what was at stake).

The interview questions were very simple for me, no clinical questions either, but another applicant said that she had ABG questions. I think the interview is customized to what they want from each applicant.

UNCC is VERY bent on having 18 months of "real" ICU time. The director even suggested that my 8 years (at that time) wasn't good enough cause I was only part-time when I talked to her. She made me explain in the interview that I gave up my CNS job to go back to the ICU full-time for them.

As far as the "in the ghetto," actually it is in a nice section (Myers Park is adjacent--$250-750K houses). I went to grad school at VCU--now that's the ghetto. Try walking down the hill to your car after dark..kinda scary even for a guy! I really liked Richmond though...

I applied to all 4 schools in TX. Did 2 interviews. Alt at one accepted at the other. One school I didn't even get an interview. The other I got one but turned it down since I had already been accepted to the school of my choice.

Well, this will be my third time applying...1st time no interview, 2nd time an interview but not accepted, and the third time an interview that is scheduled a week from tomorrow. I REALLY hope that this third time will be a charm! I'm open to advice!

I'm probably short on advice since I just started applying but would you mind sharing your grades, GRE scores, experience and what schools you applied to? Someone may be able to give advice if they saw a possible weakness. I myself am nervous because I think I could have always gone for that extra cert or networked more or done better on the GRE.

i found this on another thread from a guy that just went through this program. that is great to receive a fulltime salary, and graduate with no student loans information concerning us army graduate program in anest nsg

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

just wanted to post this, the army started another crna class this june and again we couldn't fill all the slots. i am not a recruiter, i am a graduate of the program and want this program to have much success as the welfare of our soldiers depends on our ability to provide quality care in the combat zone.

people can do inter-service transfers and civilians can apply and if accepted come onto active duty for the program (they are commissioned and are obligated volunteers for 7 years total...30 months of school and 4.5 years of payback.)

any questions please contact me at [email protected] or pm me here.
