I am in South Florida right now and I am having trouble finding an assignment in North or South Florida. It's like there is a "hiring freeze" or something. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have never heard of you having to contact the manager for an interview. Acutally my company specifically tells you not to contact the hosptial, but to wait until they contact you. I was told that managers don't like being contacted by travelers and the last hospital I was at the manager even told me that she won't even return the calls of travelers that call her looking for a position.
I thought it was just me. I am having a hard time finding a travel position as an OB nurse. Looking for FL in Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area, and have not had any success. I wanted to start in January, but now my chances are looking slim.
My friend who is a PICU nurse has an assignment already for the past month. I am not sure if I will be able to travel.
This would have been my first year and was really looking forward to it.
Also, my recruiter gave me the managers number for a couple of hospitals. I did not call them, becuase as was previously stated it is useless to have a recruiter if I have to do all the legwork. Plus, it just does not seem right for the manager to receive countless calls from travelers instead of just one from a recruiter.
Is this commom practice?

Maybe I will..I'm working with Nurse Choice, On Assignment, and Faststaff and all 3 are pretty much saying the same thing. I did get submitting for an assignment in N. Mexico though. Now I have to track down the nurse manager for the floor and schedule an interview. Is that the norm? To me it kinda defeats the purpose of having a recruiter if I have to do all the legwork.
