What is the recommended method to clean a wound.

a) irrigate with normal saline using 30-35cc syringe attached to 18-19 gauge cathelon resulting in 8psi.

or

b) using normal saline and gauze.

These are the two different methods in my health region.

There are various schools of thought. The best answer is to follow whatever your hospital policy says so that you do not get into trouble.

My hospital does not have a policy on this. Just wanted to know what method most facilities are using.

Wound Wash Saline is great! It is usually cheaper than bottles of saline (which should be discarded after 24 hours) and gives the proper psi.
