Irish nurse to Canada

Published

I am an Irish trained nurse registered in the Children's and General divisions. I have a 4.5 year honours degree that I graduated with first class honours. I have one years experience in paediatric radiology and scrubbing/circulating in paeds cath lab. My partner and I wish to immigrate to Canada and from our research and briefly talking to an immigration agent we believe I should qualify for the skilled migrant visa programme with my partner applying as my family member. I understand the visa application process but am unsure about when I should go about having my qualifications assessed by the NNAS. Should I do that first? I wish to apply to the College of Nurses of Ontario. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am an Irish IEN living in Ontario for the past 5 years. Definitely recommend starting off the process with NNAS as soon as possible. I have had a lot of obstacles to overcome since beginning the process 4 years ago but have recently been authorized to sit the NCLEX and unable to practice during that time. Advice is apply to the NNAS as soon as you can and also to continue practicing during the process to meet that CNO requirement of safe practice. It's a whole lot of extra paperwork otherwise. CNO website explains clearly the registration requirements you need to meet.
