Interviewing with pending travel contract?

I'm new to traveling and would like some feedback. I had applied for a (local-ish) position and heard nothing back from the facility. A few weeks later, I started working with an agency for a very similar position at the same facility.

I have not been submitted yet, but I just received an email from HR, referencing my original application, to arrange an interview. :wideyed: Now what should I do? Is this common? A coincidence? How do I respond to HR? Do I wait until I'm submitted first?

I like the idea of traveling to test out the waters and see if I'm a good fit for the facility. On the other hand, I'd prefer to be hired directly (I think?). Can some of the more experienced folks help talk me through this and give me some suggestions? I'm not sure what to do next and lack the experience to make the best decision on my own. Help? :nailbiting:

Let me see if I follow this. You are working with an agency on a travel contract for the same hospital where you previously applied for a staff job. You have not committed nor interviewed for either. Generally, it takes a while to go staff, longer than a travel contract takes to start. Talk to HR about their preferences and suggest a travel assignment could serve as a good trial for both of you. The manager might have a preference too. The agency cannot claim they "own" you as you applied to the facility first. I think you can do whatever you like. I don't see the issue. Just be straight with all parties.

Thank you for explaining my situation far more succinctly than I did sans caffeine. I think you're correct, be straight and up front with both. I was just worried that HR might attempt to pass over my contract offer if they realize they could get me for less money. I actually wondered if this was not a coincidence and maybe I was already submitted without my knowledge?

You should have been submitted if you filled out an application. Whether there was an open travel assignment could be less clear. Who knows what HR or more importantly the manager wants unless you talk to them.
