Interview Question

There are only 2 RN's on the floor and you are very busy with patients who need your attention. A patients family is demanding to see the RN and won't talk to the LVN. How would you deal with this situation?

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

So what do you think?

well, patient safety is a priority to me. If the family is wanting to see me, I would apologize to the family and explain that a patient needs me at the moment, but I will see them right afterwards. If it were the case that the family was here to talk to the other RN who is also busy, I would also apologize to them and explain that the RN is with a pt right now, but will be with them afterwards. I'm not sure if this is the best way to deal with the situation.
