Interview Question-Case Manager

Nursing Students Student Assist

I am working on a paper for school and I would really appreciate if a Nursing Case Manager could take the time to answer just one interview question for me.

What challenges have you faced in dealing with other disciplines who may not understand the needs of nurses or nursing?

Describe what a typical day on the job as a Nurse Case Manager is like for you.

The standard answer is something like, part of the point of your assignment is to find and speak to a nurse case manager. I could tell you I'm certified in case management, but you have no way to verify that, or even that I'm a real nurse and not the truck driver next door.

So you want to go to your local hospital, SNF, insurance, HMO, or VNA and make a date to go for coffee with a real one. You'll learn that what is called a case manager in home care is different from an in-hospital job, and those are different from a case manager for an insurance provider. Ask about certification and prerequisites, too.
