Interview in Mercy Memorial Healthcare Center in Ardmore

Published

I am a new grad RN in CA. It is very hard to get a job for new grads in CA. Therefore, I applied in other states.

Today I received a phone call to offer an interview from Mercy Memorial Healthcare Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

I would like to know about the facility and Ardmore.

Anyone is working in the medical center?

Does the facility still hire new grad?

Thank you very much. I really appreciate any input

Ardmore is a smallish, country town with a population of about 30,000 people that is bisected by interstate 35. You will be about two hours north of Dallas and about one hour south of Oklahoma City. I frequently drove through Ardmore up until recently because I lived in Texas and drove north on interstate 35 to Oklahoma City every week for school. The town had basic shopping such as Lowe's, McDonald's, Loves Truck Stops, grocery stores, and a Walmart Supercenter. There are plenty of open fields and grasslands in and around the town. Ardmore is located approximately 30 miles north of the Texas-Oklahoma border.

Sorry, but I know nothing personally about the hospital. I do know that the starting pay rates for that area are $17 to $19 hourly for a new grad RN with no experience. The pay is low, but the cost of living in Ardmore is also very low.

TheCommuter,

Thanks a lot for your quick response.

I am thinking about obtaining OK license and find a job in OK.

How about the job oppotunities for new grad RN in OK?

I would conjecture that Oklahoma offers more RN job opportunities for new grads than most other states, especially California.

I think you'd like Ardmore. It has the advantages of small town living coupled with close proximity to the big cities of Dallas and OKC. Mercy has a very busy ER with a top notch flight team headed by a good friend of mine. They have a huge cachment area because they serve the region. It is a rounded hospital population....from newborn to geriatric. The most critical cases are airlifted to OKC; but it is a very good hospital and you'll be welcome. Yes, they hire new grads. The cost of living in OK is way less than you are used to in CA....but then, everywhere is! (Except maybe NYC!) I came here from another state and have never regretted the move. The people are friendly, the cost of living is low and the weather keeps you on your toes. Come to Ardmore and you'll never regret it! PM me if you would like more substantive info....I only live a little ways out of there.

Thank you designer RN EMT.

I missed a chance to go to Ardmore. Although I bought ticket and book hotel already, I had to cancel the OK trip because I got a job offer in California two days before the trip.

I had to cancel total of 5 interview offers because I got a job offer in the first interview.

I was deseparated looking for a job for several months and no one called me. However, I got a lot of interview offers recently, so I guess now is the time hospitals have started hiring again.

I am working in a hospital, Med-Surg floor.

Good for you! I'm glad you got your job, though I'm sad that OK missed out on getting a new resident....work a while and get some good experience under your belt...and maybe you'll end up out here with us yet! :D
