Interview and job shadow at the hospital

Published

I recently had an interview on feb 16 as a patient care tech at the hospital on the Med/surg floor and I know that it went very well. So then my interviewer offer me to job shadow on Feb 20. I haven't heard from them after my job shadow this past Saturday. I did although email him and wrote a message and place it by his door. Am I going to be hired? How long should I wait for to call them?

Have you done your background check and drug test? I also interviewed for a PCA job, she called an offered me the job, I went and did drug and background, now I'm waiting to hear back. They said it takes about a week, which will be tomorrow. So I'm clutching my cell phone hopelessly waiting for a call lol. There shouldn't be any problems but that doesn't stop me from stressing.

No I wasn't offer a job yet, just to job shadow. How long did you wait until she called you?

Well at the interview she basically said she wanted to hire him. There was someone already working at the hospital that had called and was interested in switching over. However if she did take it then they were going to hire me for another PCA job opening in May. So I basically had to wait a few days for the other girl to decide she didn't want to switch. Do you know if they were interviewing anyone else for the position?

Yeah my interview told me that there was one before me and also 2 more after me. What do you think are my chances ?

I guess that would depend on how much experience/education you have vs the others. Also, how many openings they have. I don't think they can offer the job to anyone until the interview everyone they had called. It's only Tuesday so maybe they are waiting for the others to finish their interviews/shadowing. How was your shadowing though? I didn't get to do that and will also be working on medsurg.

My job shadow went so awesome and I really like the med/surg floor. Everyone work as a team, in which I loved even more. Yeah I figure I should just be real patient about it and just wait because it's totally understandable that they're busy especially with others. I did apply for a full time position and my interviewer said that there isn't a position for that yet right now. So I'm wondering why did they post that specific application up then?

Sometimes hospitals post "jobs" to build a candidate file for a later time. Perhaps the manager (HR, more than likely) messed up when entering the job information for future applicants? Still, that is not what I would want to hear when I'm gunning for a FT position.

On a postive note to that issue, in time after your orientation, and based on your level of comfort, there will be plenty of shifts to pick up to compensate *weekends, holidays, call-outs... This could be to your advantage.

As far as your "chances" of getting the offer. It will depend on your competition's experience, education, and how well he or she meshes with the team. The deal breaker at this point is honestly who's the best fit for the team. It's obvious that you've already met the experience and education criteria. So, I feel that you have a good chance, unless superman wears scrubs.

I think it's safe to give them a call today, tomorrow (Friday) for certain. He or she may or may not get back to you until next week though because all ___ breaks loose before the weekend (1/2 kidding, 1/2 not). Best wishes!
