Interventional Radiology NP?!!

Published

Hi all! I'm an FNP student, graduating in May 2019. I am interested in working in IR placing PICC lines. Does anyone know where I can find a training program or have ideas about how I can obtain a job in this area when I am done?

Thanks in advance!

UC Davis has a radiology/intervention radiology advanced practice fellowship. Check it out! The only drawback I can think of is that the application cycle (deadline is August of each year) indicates you might not begin until late 2019 or early 2020. Other than that, there are a few IR/Radiology jobs out there. Most see to want some sort of experience though.

Here's the link to the UC Davis program:

Thank you so much! I'll look into it.

If you're goal is to place PICC lines you could have just stayed an RN... RNs place PICCs unless they are difficult, then the patient will go to IR.

NPs in IR place central lines (IJ), tunneled HD and Hickmann catheters and implanted chest ports, do paras and thoras with pigtails or tunneled drains, liver biopsies, LPs and myelograms, epidural steroid injections, large and small joint steroid injections, etc.
