Internationally educated RN( CCA)

Hi Noor,

There are several threads about the CCA on this site. It's also known as the SEC.

1) the FAQ section about the SEC in the International forum (tagged as a sticky note)

2) I put up a post asking for people if they took the CCA/SEC.

3) Thread titled "SEC assessment next week now what to do"

I'm also taking the CCA in Manitoba in a week and half. I only just booked last week but I didn't want to wait forever to take it. The lady at the place was really nice and told me it should be plenty of time to study.

I'm going through everything they recommended:

- nursing textbooks published within 5 yrs (I'm using a review book instead to save time)

- practice CRNE questions

- reading the materials they gave us (entry level competencies, code of ethics, etc.)

- online scenarios

From what I understand, the main focus is fundamentals of nursing - ie. medication administration, IVs, assessment, wound care, etc. Things that are basic and vital skills all nurses need.

Where are you coming from & when are you taking the CCA?

I'll put something up on my original thread once I take it!

I'm desi too - born in UK but finished nursing school in the US. I think Fundamentals of Nursing (Potter & Perry) is a good idea. I think this is what they are looking for in the general nursing part. Do you have to take just general or also OB, Child health & Mental health? I have to take all the theory exams but the OSCE is going to be general. From what namreen said, it seems that a lot of things they ask in the practical comes from fundamentals - hanging IVs, administering meds, wound care, etc.
