I am a fairly new RN that is looking to take advantage of travel nursing while I have less responsibilities in my personal life. I have little contacts with travel nurses, but based on what I have read on forums, travel jobs within the US are few and far between. I have a friend that has traveled to Australia for a travel nurse position and loves it. My curiosity is what other peoples perspectives are: how does the pay compare? Am I taking the chance of losing some skills since the scope of practice may be different? How smooth could a transition like this be internationally? Would appreciate a bit of freeback. Considering looking into travel assignment starting in January-possibly New Zealand.

Have you applied for license to the country? If not be aware may take a bit longer than 4 moths to complete and you be allowed to work in that country cos you will also need to sort out a work permit

Would it be better to travel through a company?..Im assuming they would help with that kind of thing, ie obtaining work premits/license? Or better to find something on my own? This is all very new to me, but I would think that if I went through a company they would help with fees? I hear these types of things can be very expensive....

You can find fees on the board of nursing website and then just add cost of postage on top. No guarantee an agency will pay for it all and many have done it without an agency and have had more control over where they ended up.

If you go to the country's immigration website they should be able to tell you how to go about getting a work permit/visa and what is required.
