I'm an RN, I work in Ontario. I'm on Mat leave, so I'm a little out of the loop. :uhoh3:

A friend of mine told me that nurses in BC have had their wage cut by 50%, and Ontario hospitals are considering this as well. She said that the BC union fought and lost, and Ontario's union is expected to lose too. :imbar

I haven't seen or heard anything about this. I would think that it would be all over the news if it were true.

Can anyone help me out? :)

not true. bc nurses got a raise bringing them even with alberta in their last negotiations (top wage $32.42 at step 9). however, their working conditions were rolled back drastically in a legislated contract even though the nurses were not on strike, and the province dealt with the ensuing exodus of nurses by closing beds. now alberta is following bc's roadmap, trying to roll back our working conditions to roughly where things were in the 50's. we're currently in our second round of mediation, which the province thinks is arbitration. the una has refused to participate in arbitration, so the board agreed to act as mediators. there's a gag rule on the proceedings so none of us know what's happening. oh, and alberta is planning to open 1700 new beds in the next six years. i wish them luck!!
