I'm from the island of Trinidad(CARIBBEAN).

It has always been my dream to become an RN nurse.I have all academic requirements to pursue this passion. After years of waiting I finally got an interview and guess what?,they are offering me mental health nursing instead of general nursing(which I applied for). Now I have to wait another year before I get a next interview.I'm thinking of giving up.SHOULD I?

are you in Aussie? This is an australian discussion area. Or have you been offered to take the course in Australian UNI? OR IN THE states?

Specializes in ICU.

personally wherever you are I would not turn down the mental health nursign position mental health nurses are getting to be in very short supply - especially here in Australia.

Is it possible to begin the mental health branch, but switch to the adult branch. if you are in Trinidad the course you have been offered is project 2000. The first year for all of the branches are the same, indeed all of the students are taught together and then are seperated. Perhaps you could seek clarification from the university. Goodluck, hang in there. By the way don't do the mental health course unless you feel that you will enjoy this type of work.
