Australian RN wanting to work in California

Hi there!

:confused:Wondering if anyone out there can give me advice, if maybe someone has been through this process, I really need some help!!

I am an Australian Citizen with a Bachelors degree in Nursing, my Partner is an American Citizen, and we are looking at moving to California next year, therefore I need to register as a nurse in California.

The applicant details say that you need experience in Paediatrics and Obstetrics, what exactly does this entail?? My course did not have any specific Units for these subjects, only others which briefly touched on these eg. Anatomy and Physiology.

Would I need to do any short courses/units at a University?? Is it possible to enrol in say one unit for a semester to cover these areas? and if you dont graduate from the course is it still counted toward theory/experience??

Thanks!!

There have been several posts from Ausralian nurses that have been found to have deficiencies in some areas and they was able to meet requirements however I can not remember where they did it but think it was online. I would suggest applying to the BRN and see what they say in regards to your transcripts and if you have to make hours up they should be able to tell you what they will accept.

Also not sure what visa you will be moving on but make sure you have the time to complete everything. Also check out the California state forum as many nurses there have been struggling to find work
