Hello all

I am going for an accelrated BSN currently and my husband and I are seriously considering moving to france, germany or austria within the next five years or so.

I am wondering where and how I get information on jobs, salaries, ability to use degree I got here in other countries, fluency in other countries native languages, ability to purse advanced nursing degrees like crna etc.

Thanks for the help. I know it is down the road somewhat but I feel if we are really going to do this, we should start preparing in any way we now!

Just a quick thought - try contacting the embassies of these countries and see if they can give you some ideas.

Good luck.

You might as well pick a country that has free health care, while you're at it. Have you seen "Sicko"?

Specializes in LTC, med-surg.

Sorry to be repetitive, but in Germany healthcare is not for free.

I don't understand why you would want to work there? The pay is horrible, cost of living very high--- high income tax, high gas prices, fresh produce is expensive. Nurses are also not as proactive as they are here, you do what your boss tells you, it' s even illegal for nurses to go on strike! In Germany especially are too many nurses and not enough jobs... please research carefully

Which ever country you pick you have to meet their criteria for RN usually 3 years (Not sure if they will accept accelerated) You must be able to speak their language fluently. Also if not an EU citizen you may find it hard to get a work permit as I believe it is the same as in the UK which requires job goes to someone from original country then EU before the rest of the world. There is a thread in the INternational forum which tells you requirements for France if you do a search I am sure it will pop up

I too am planning to move to France when I graduate, and would love any info. So far, all I have discovered is that most hospital jobs in France require some coursework done locally and certified by the French government. However, I can't find any details. I would love any info as well.

If your primary reason for moving to Europe is because you think you would enjoy living there, then go for it. But if your primary reason for moving to Europe is to work there as a nurse, then I don't understand that plan at all. I understand that you currently live in the USA where there is a worsening nursing shortage. I have been working as an RN here in California USA for over two decades and I have had the pleasure of working with nurses from Germany and the U.K. Since I am naturally curious, I asked them about nursing in those two countries. All of these nurses told me that the RN's here in the States make far more money than the nurses in Western Europe. More importantly, the working conditions are generally better here in the States than in Europe. That's not to say that conditions are bad in Europe for nurses, but it is certainly better here in the States, especially in progressive states like California. If you insist on moving to Europe, best of luck to you.
