My husband has been diagnosed with hepatitis C for over 2 years now. His GI doc is now recomending starting interferon. My only experience with interferon is when I had renal cell cancer pts taking it, and they said the side effects were horrible. They thought it was worse than any chemo they had experienced. So I understand that this peg-interferon is better, and it is only once a week shots, but the Dr makes it seem like it is very tolerable. Is he just sugar coating it or do the pts you have seen do well with it?

One of my friends just finished about 18 months of it and she said it was like having the flu for 18 months...however her viral load is now undetectable. I introduced her to theraflu which she took religiously she said, that is the thing that brought her through it. According to her, some days were horrible and some were just mild like flu symtoms. I think everyone is different though I had a pt that took it and she was just tired and felt like she was coming down with something all of the time. At the very least he will probably feel tired....But it works for many so I would think it is worth it...Erin

I take Rebif for MS, which is an interferon, and they say you should have your liver enzimes checked every 3 month. Other than that, you could have flu like symptoms after each injection. tylenol usually works
