I have been working in Med-Surg/Telemetry for over a year and a half as a registered nurse and worked the same floor as a tech for a year and a half before I started, so I know my floor pretty well. I work 7p-730a and I want to go to day shift at some point, but I don't want to do day shift on my floor. We get 5-6 patients on evening shift and 6-7 on night shift. I just don't want to do Med-Surg forever. The hospital I'm currently at is making a lot of cuts as well.
When I was in nursing school, we had 1 day that we got to see a surgery and follow our patient to the PACU. I liked surgery a lot and I liked PACU a lot as well. I unfortunately don't know any PACU or surgical nurses otherwise I'd bug them for information!
There is currently a position open at a different hospital than the one I currently work at that has 8 day/evening shifts available, which I'm iffy about because I'm used to 12 hour shifts and I'm kind of scared of trying something new, but I think I would enjoy the challenge. Can someone just kind of describe their general day in the PACU, give some advice on transitioning from Med-Surg to PACU, or give me whatever information could be pertinent. Thanks so much!! :)
