Well hate to break it to you but the economy sucks for everyone. I would avoid extravegant loans to pay for your education, that's good advice for anyone. Also consider your current employment situation... if you do a job that you don't love but make a similar or higher wage to that of an LPN, now probably isn't the time (or just work on gen eds for your RN). But if you are currently unemployed, underemployed, or working your butt off for little more than minimum wage; what have you got to lose? Check out your state board of nursing's website they should have a list of approved programs in your state. Find the one's in your area and learn as much as you can about them: what prerequisites are you going to need? All the schools in my area now require you to be a CNA, and have successfully completed anatomy&physiology, psychology, and sometime times human development. How much is tuition/fees/books, etc.? Scholarships/grants available? Try to stick with public schools though they tend to be more competitive they are much cheaper and generally better. Figure out if you qualify for pell grant and/or governement loans. Setting things in motion and promising yourself you are going to go back to school doesn't mean you will start tomorrow or even next semester, just that you will work toward reaching your goals.
Good luck.
