Interested in Chamberlain

This would be a great option, if it would be possible for me to attend. Does anyone know if they accept international students? (Technically, I have a U.S. Address because we are on a U.S. Military base, and I'm a resident of Maine).

Also- How does it work? I've browsed the website, but I can't seem to find anything out about how the clinicals are completed, etc.

One more thing.. How often does one have to travel there? I have no idea where it's based, but I'm guessing pretty far from Japan:lol2: hehe.. although we'll be back in the states for good, next summer.

This would be for the ADN program..

I don't know much about Chamberlain, but, yes it is pretty far from Japan:rotfl:

Seriously, there is one here in St Louis and a new location in Columbus (I think). How many times would you have to visit -- after each nursing course that requires a clinical. Each semester is 8 weeks and they require a skills validation on campus which is 4 days per semester. You have to obtain a clinical preceptor from a participating local hospital in your area which the school should help you with. Clinicals, I believe, are 1 day per week, per semester. Some states do not allow you to attend Chamberlain (or something like that) so definately check with the school to get more information.

Hope this help!! Good Luck!

Thanks NikNik, I just read your other response too

520 per S.H.?!!?? GOOD LORD. Let's see..with no transfer courses or student aid that's a lil over 37,000. FOR AN ADN?? That seems insanely expensive. Luckily I usually get a lot of grants and aid when I apply for Fafsa.. otherwise I wouldn't even consider it. Do they have payment plans or do they expect you to cough up all that dough every semester?

So.. a 4 day trip every 2 months?? I'm not sure this idea is going to fly with hubby. That is A LOT of extra money!

I hope the degrees come with a side of gold:uhoh3::lol2:

Ok I just looked at the curriculum again on their website.

Tell me if I'm reading this right.. Semester one does not require you to do the 4 day validation, they start after semester 2, for a total of 5 trips - 1 every 8 weeks?

Yes, you are correct!

Hmm.. I'll have to think it over. Maybe I'm a huge wimp but I don't feel particulary safe as a young woman flying and staying alone for 4 days in a city I've never been.. St. Louis no less- one of the highest crime rating in the nation! I can see it now.. "Caitlin was last seen leaving Chamberlain college..if you have any info.."

:lol2: J/K

You are not a wimp...I am :chair: . I will NEVER, EVER fly again. I am terrified.

St. Louis is not as bad as they make it seem, its just a small city. I've lived here all of my life and don't plan to leave (unless I hit the lottery). However, I would not want to travel to a 'strange' city, alone, that I've never been to, as well.

What you have to do first is make sure that the state that you're in accepts Chamberlain.....Not all (California, Washington, New York are ones that I know DON'T) states accept Chamberlain....hopefully Maine does....maybe they will accept you being that you're overseas and in the military....maybe you can do your clinicals in the American Hospital....Good Luck and let us know how you do....

I think Maine is pretty lax. When I called to ask if they'd accept it she said "If the BON of the College's home state recognizes it, then we do." Good 'nough for me! :)

We will be moving back to the states next summer (late May), so I think I'll apply for the Spring 2008 semester. That way my first clinicals will be a few weeks after we get settled on our new base, and I won't have to fly to St. Lou or Columbus from Japan! I don't think I need to worry much about a site, Air Force tend to take care of their own and I'm sure they would let me do it on the hospital on base.

I got the same response from Indiana BON...you have to go to STL after Nursing Concepts, this is not advertised, it was something they told us the first night of chat for that class, there are procedure they want you to practice with an RN at home, like cath, NG tubes, dressings, then go out and show what you know in Skills validations, it is Pass/Fail and 100% required. They break things down by trimester so you are taking one course over 16 weeks not 8, the general ed like math and AP are 8 weeks, but the nursing classes you have more time. It moves so fast though, you really have to stay ahead of your reading.

It's good to check with you home state to see if they are accepted, and as I have mentioned in other posts ( it's a sore spot with me after paying so much this term) that they are having trouble with clinicals out of state, I would honestly take what they say with a grain of salt, I have a file full of very positive emails saying they are working on it and a local hospital waiting for me to arrive to do my thing, but no contract in place, which has to come from the school. We are entering week #10 of this trimester.

I'm not purposfully 'slamming' the school, the instructors are fabulous and I enjoyed my trip out there very much, the school has undergone some changes and I think that they are still trying to catch up.

Good luck to you!

Each semester is 8 weeks and they require a skills validation on campus which is 4 days per semester.

NikNik- Isn't each semester 16 weeks- not 8? From what I can see each semester is 16 weeks, and has 2 sessions. I only ask because it will make a HUGE difference in my choice, if I have to fly there every 8 weeks, or every 16 LOL

I am looking at the ASN/ADN Curriculum - Prelicensed Students grid that I received from the school (its online also). It states that...."each session is eight weeks in length; a semester is 16 weeks in length".

Again, I don't know too much about Chamberlain, I'm just considering it as well. I do believe that, based on reading the attached grid, that the skills validation is after 16 weeks, not 8.

Hope this helps
