Insurance as a Traveler

My husband is about to join me on the road(our baby is off to college), which means no more company insurance. We are trying to decide between the insurance offered by my travel company and private insurance. Unfortunately this is above my knowledge base. I've tried getting insurance quote but discovered a disclaimer at the bottom that said it wouldn't cover Obamacare requirements. Any suggestions? Companies to get private insurance quotes from, anyone with actual experience with this. All opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated. At my age you would think I would know more about this, but I have always taken company insurance, good and bad.

It is amazing to me that any American has gotten through the last four years without knowing that the ACA set up healthcare exchanges, state and federal. If your state doesn't have one, you can go to the federal one to shop for insurance. Everything you see will be ACA compliant - which you need to not pay penalties (although agency insurance may not be compliant if grandfathered - you won't owe penalties for taking employer insurance). It will be expensive, but good health insurance always is. Go ahead and compare it with agency insurance - historically most agency insurance is really bad. You will be looking at $400 a month or more per person for good insurance so if your agency is offering insurance for $200 a month, it may have little real value. If it is actually good insurance at a good price (providers available throughout the country) and your agency has more than 50 full time equivalent employees, you will be able to keep that insurance for up to 18 months after you leave their employment (the COBRA law).

You can also go to an insurance agent for quotes or directly with an insurance company. The quotes should be identical to the healthcare exchange as far as I know. No idea who is quoting you non-compliant insurance. I didn't think that was legal unless it is some sort of supplemental insurance.
