Typically today Medical nurse and surgical nurse are combined beacuse surgical patients have medical problems and visa versa. Historically, a "medical nurse" took care of medical patients a surgical nurse took care of post op surgical patients( http://lmgtfy.com/?q=definition+of+medical+nurse) a "criculating nurse" http://lmgtfy.com/?q=definition+of+circulating+nurseis (is a first assist today) a nurse trained to scrub into operations and assit the MD with the procedure and the instruments (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=definitionscrub+nurse). Hi,
I hope like heck I'm posting this inquiry in the right location.
I'm as green as they come! I'm a student RN (ADN program).
INQUIRY:
I'm unclear.
What is the difference between a surgical, medical & scrub nurse?
It is my understanding that
SCRUB NURSE
"scrub nurse is a specially trained nurse who works with surgeons and the medical team in the operating room. "
I've found reference to medical-surgical RN's, but no reference to
a "medical nurse" or "surgical nurse".
Yet that is exactly what the professor is asking us!
THANKS for any input,
Newbie
