INPATIENT VS OUTPATIENT NURSING FOR NEW GRAD

Published

Hi guys, So for all experienced nurses wether working in a hospital or outpatient clinic I would appreciate your advice and insight. I am a new grad RN, hoping to become a future Family Nurse Practitioner. My question is, is it necessary to have hospital experience to become an FNP specifically working in an outpatient clinic setting? What are the chances of landing a job as an FNP if I decide to not do hospital setting and instead as a new grad start off in an outpatient clinic? If im honest with myself, during my clinical rotations and preceptorship I never really saw myself or enjoyed the hospital setting, but I did truly love the rotations I did at the community clinic working with the FNP's. My ultimate dream is to be an FNP in a low income community ,so again my question, am I really kicking myself in the behind if I do not start off in the hospital as a new grad?
