Has anyone gone through Inova's critical care program before? I am told they do a fellowship or some sort of coursework to help bridge you into critical care if you already have med/surg experience, but I'm curious as to people's thoughts on it.
Also tried using the search feature and haven't found much on Inova recently. How are the state of affairs of this hospital? Do people like it? Any suggestions to someone starting here? (And it doesn't have to be nursing-related, could be like where to get good coffee or something haha...) Any help is appreciated!

I did the ER nursing fellowship in 2008, there is basic info on nurse fellowships here: Inova Learning Network - Inova
I thought our course was excellent - good balance of hands-on and didactic. Hopefully the critical care course is as good! Good luck. :)

i am also curious to learn more about Inova's cc program!
jstage, did you apply to it?
Sorry, it's been a little while since I've been around this site. The program is good! I thought it prepared me pretty well to be on my own. Of course, there is only so much you can learn from didactic and admittedly, most of what I learned came from a good preceptor, which is more unit-dependent than program-dependent. Even still, in your orientation, it is difficult to try and fit in all the different types of cases and advanced therapies you're supposed to see.
Inova utilizes ECCO, which I find helpful, though somewhat lengthy. They do a really great class on codes and a lot of their advanced therapy classes are nice because they have reps from the actual companies (e.g. Abiomed for Impella, Gambro for CRRT, EKOS rep for thrombolysis, Arctic Sun, IABP, specific reps come to do education on medications like remodulin vs. veletri, etc.) explain the machines and the patient care very well while your unit builds on specific Inova policies.

Hi guys. Congrats for you all. I do have question as well. Are there any assessment tests for new hire RN at INOVA that possibly affect employment status? Couple of my friends had to do the test called PBDS or BKAT at other facilities, but they were asked to resign since they couldn't make it with passing score. Thanks!
In the ER fellowship I had to take the ER BKAT and I passed, but I am not sure what would have happened if I had failed it.

Wondering if anyone has any new information or can add their experience to this thread? I'm starting a cc fellowship this summer.
