Injectable Nurse working under a Medical Director

Published

I am looking into becoming an injectables nurse. (botox and fillers).

Are there any RN's out there that have branched off on their own to perform Botox and Filler Injections? My understanding is that I would need to work under a Medical Director. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any input, opinions, suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you

Check with your BON, you will likely need to work in a clinic with a medical director who can authorize you to inject Botox and delegate the injection of Botox via an order or written medical directive. The medical directive should outline the procedure for new and returning clients. For example new clients will likely need to be seen by the doctor in person before the Botox can be administered. Returning clients may have Botox injected by the nurse, unless there is a change in health history or other reason for a follow-up consultation with the doctor.

Definitely your BON, will direct you

Also check the BON's disciplinary hearings regarding nurses who went off on their own and did injections without an order or medical directive.
