California RN

Hi guys. I just moved to California. I absolutely love it here:))))

When I was working in New York, I had to do a regular assessment that was required by

infusion company I worked for. I recently spoke with someone who told me that in California,

nurses have to complete OASIS. Do you know if it is required by California state or some

infusion companies do it and other don't? How long does it typically take to do it?

Thank you in advance!!!

Hi,

Can't answer your question but would like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind. I am also from New York and really want to/am planning to move to California. How do you like it compared to New York? How difficult was it to get a job/what area (northern/southern) did you move to/how much RN experience do you have?

OASIS is a comprehensive assessment for Medicare patients. Nearly all Medicare patients require these assessments at admission, resumption of care post-hospitalizations, re-certifications q 60 days and at discharge. Medicare only covers home nursing for homebound patients and through a Medicare/Medicaid certified home health agency, which home infusion companies generally are not. In my experience, Medicare home infusion patients have to get their nursing service from a separate nursing agency. When I worked in home infusion, the only Medicare patients our nurses saw were on service with a VNA that subcontracted us for the infusion nursing piece. The VNA nurses did the OASIS assessments.
