Hi guys I am looking for some suggestions on how best to allivate a pt discomfort with a nasty infected peripheral IV canula site?
I have used Ichtopaste in the past but not available where I work, also aquacell soaked in witch hazel - has a very cooling effect but the problem with wet aquacell is it turns to jelly which has a habit of running away so we used to tegaderm it down but we were banned from doing it due to cost.
This pt in particular has a really red pulsating infected site alerted the team and they started him on IVABs but when i asked them what i should put on it they looked at me like I had an extra head ,,,,,,,,,,could of been the accent :)
So basicly all suggestions welcome cause I had an icepack on it for 20 min but poor pt can tolerate that all day! Thanks

Localized treatment includes keeping extremity elevated/moist warm compresses for 20-30 min every couple hours (microwave a wet towel for 30-60 seconds) No witch hazel.
