I am a nurse, currently in the OR, but I recently completed a health IT program, so I am trying to transition into that role. I completed an internship at a hospital that is part of a system that I worked for 8 years ago (I worked at a different hospital within the system), and I applied to an analyst position at the encouragement of my manager. Here's the thing. I got terminated from my hospital. I made a mistake and I let myself get bullied by a doctor to help him with a procedure that I should have called and asked for help with. No harm came to the patient, but I was let go for violating policy.
Today, the recruiter called me and told me that I was ineligible for rehire in the system. I was told that I could call HR and try to have it overturned, but the lady that I talked to said that it was unlikely to be overturned, but I could try to talk to the director and plead my case. She has not called back yet. Should I try to talk to my IT manager? I don't know how much she knows, but I hope she's not mad that I didn't disclose this to her. But no one asked me why I didn't work at the other hospital anymore. She may be the only one who can go to bat for me with HR. This isn't even a nursing position that I'm trying to get, and it was over 8 years ago. If she doesn't overturn it, my application is dead in the water and it's time to move on, but I really want this job!

Should I try to talk to my IT manager?
It doesn't sound like you have anything to lose, so why not?

Tell you manager and tell your manager now.
An omission of that magnitude will not be taken lightly and may result in a loss of faith.

I have to ask: What was the procedure? I mean, nurses assist doctors. That's part of what we do. I just don't understand.
Helping with conscious sedation for a EGD. No one alerted the anesthesiologist that a case requiring anesthesia had been posted on a Saturday morning, so they weren't there and my doc didn't want to wait for them to get there. He said he is certified in giving conscious sedation, so we could do it without an anesthesia provider. I feel like it was a no-win situation no matter what I did.
I had a feeling it was something like conscious sedation. But damn, what a messed up thing. Tell your IT Manager and see if there's anything they can do. After that, you've done all you can do.
