Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I was wondering if any of the LPN's out there are doing the LPN to BSN degree Indiana State Univ has to offer online? Does anyone know if Fla Lpn's can do this program and sit for thier RN boards in the State of Fla.? And On thier website they tell you to go through College Network to take your undergraduate classes? I thought you can avoid those people because all they want is your money and it's a waste of your money? You can buy the books on Ebay for cheaper? This is my case, I have no college credit hours for my pre-req's, I took my LPN at a community college and I think they will transfer over but don't know? Any advice? Thanks

I sent the school an inquiry message and received this response:

Although the LPN-BSN Distance Learning Program is not recognized in Florida, a number of other states have been recognized or approved and we are working diligently to complete the other states. We are hoping the Florida State Board of Nursing will recognize this program soon. In the meantime, here is a little more information about the University and the College of Nursing.

Indiana State University has an exclusive contract with The College Network so as to provide the study guides for the initial phase of the program. As you will see in the attached, there are three Phases to the LPN-BSN Track. Phase I are Gen Ed requirements that will need to be completed with The College Network or a local college in your area. When acquiring Gen Ed requirements, 50 credit hours need to be at a 300 or 400 level course. If you have a previous degree, some or all of the credits may transfer into the College of Nursing. After completing Phase I you then apply to Indiana State University. http://www.indstate.edu/join_us/apply.htm You will then fill out a 2nd

application with the College of Nursing:

For Transfer Students, this link on the ISU website is very helpful and Steps 1 thru 13 will guide you through information you need to know as a Distance Education student: http://www.indstate.edu/distance/getstarted.html Costs for the distance program are: http://www.indstate.edu/distance/fees.html

Enrollment requirements include: (due by Nov 1st for Spring Semester) (due by June 1st for Fall Semester)

Ø Come in with 2.5 minimal GPA. Maintain a 2.25 GPA throughout your courses.

Ø Criminal background check. (IN residents: https://secure.in.gov/apps/isp/lch/ Thru your states local State Police website. Send copy.

Ø Must be licensed as a LPN. Send copy of license with line marked thru.

Ø LPNs will take the TEAS exam & achieve the cut score. You will receive your packet after registering for your first nursing course (N208) through the ISU Virtual Bookstore

These entrance copies will be kept in your file at the College of Nursing/Student Affairs Office, 749 Chestnut St., Rm 328, Terre Haute, IN 47809. All nursing courses are completed online. Even though the courses are online and self-paced, they are within the traditional Fall and Spring semesters and taught by on-campus faculty members.

Then clinicals will be done in the state where you reside, with a preceptor at a

local facility. This link is the FAQ (frequently asked questions) for the

delivery of clinical education for the LPN-BS Distance Education Track:

Hope this will help you in your decision. Thank you for your interest in Indiana State University and the College of Nursing. .

My advice: Do all of your general ed before you enroll. I'm doing the RN-BSN program and have been working on finding courses to meet the last two of my general ed. ISU cant help, and unfortunately The College Network can only help so much. I don't know if Ball State has an LVN-RN program but I do know they have all of the GE courses available.

Good Luck
