Include previous career in resume?

Published

Hello!

I am in my 2nd year as a Med-Surg RN and am starting to look at other Nursing opportunities. During my first career, I was an Executive Assistant of a CEO for 7 years of a large company in a non-medical field and prior to that an Office Manager for 4 years. Would I include my previous career in my updated resume? If not, do I leave that experience on LinkedIn?

Your prior experience shows that you are organized, able to set priorities, are computer literate, able to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations, etc. These are definitely all useful skills.

When I switched from a non-healthcare career to nursing, I had a section on my resume for other work experience at the bottom. I highlighted the transferable skills there. It was definitely noticed and was beneficial in my job search.

ETA: Just reread and realized you have 2 years experience. So, you could leave in or take off at this point, unless you are looking for a more desk job. And I’d only put something like Executive Assistant/Office Manager, 2011-2015 with 2-3 lines of relevant skills under it. Nothing big.
