I've been working at a residential drug and alcohol treatment center for a few months. I'm wondering why meds must be "Self Administered". In California, they recently started Incidental Medical Services for Drug Treatment facilities which says the Health Care practitioner takes the bottle of medication and sets it in front of the patient and tells them to take out however many tablets and put them in a clear container. Apparently you can't put the med in a med cup yourself and hand it to the patient. This seems somewhat dangerous especially when giving Diazepam or Suboxone and I'm wondering why it's set up this way.
Anyone else doing this kind of "med pass"?

I don't understand that at all, if the person could handle that why would they be in residential treatment.
are the given by med techs?
